The best game you will ever play in your life
Skyrim is the kind of game you lie to your girlfriend or wife just to play, the kind of game you skip work for because nothing else matters apart from Skyrim until you are satisfied about clearing a particular cave of necromancers.
Every Elder scroll game starts with a downtrodden given a chance to change the face of the entire game world and Skyrim is no different but the sheer amount of content will knock your socks off. Whatever expression I write down will not be enough because you have to play the game in order to understand where I am coming from. I have 3 other new games that I am putting on hold because of Skyrim.
You play as a prisoner caught in the middle of an uprising between the stormcloaks and the Imperial legion. Ulfric, the head of the stormcloaks shouted the High King of Skyrim to death and he was captured along with you to face execution. In the middle of the execution, a dragon disrupts your beheading with a shout causing chaos and I decide to flee with Ulfric. A lot of RPGs claim to be open world with distant scenery that you can explore but fail miserably. Skyrim is a true open world RPG. The main quest is only a small fraction of what you will be doing in skyrim. There are so many storylines in the game and factions to join, it would be a crime not to try at least playing through the factions.
In order for you, the prisoner to confront this new threat, learning how to shout is essential and shouting down dragons and collecting souls never gets old and there are lots of dragons in the game. Encountering a dragon for the first time can be daunting but when progressing, it gets easier.
Skyrim is to the north of Tamriel and it is cold and the overall tone of the game is darker than Oblivion was. There are new scarier foes, scarier caves and sometimes funnier dialouge than its predecessor. It is the same kind of exploration like in any previous Elder Scrolls game but done better in Skyrim. Almost everything is improved and some others left out for good reasons. Combat is far better than Oblivion and it has a more fallout 3 feel to the menus and in game information display. For instance, if you discover a cave, the display pops up similar to fallout 3 display. The menu system is a little weird and unPC-like. Saving game during combat is Godsend. Level-up user interface is the best I have seen with constellations and stars which make it look pretty. Some skills have been dropped like Athletics from Oblivion and everything has been made simpler. You now focus on particular skills and you are given perks every time you level up. In Oblivion, you get stuck until you decide to advance 3 main skills that had sub skills, it was annoying.
Equipping both hands with weapons or using them both for magic is spectacular and the best for me is weapon on right hand and magic on the left which makes for a potent combination. Get too close, I chop off your head and if you are far away, a fireball will knock you right out. Crafting, alchemy and enchanting are easier to accomplish and also essential if you want to survive on the highest difficulty. The landscape is not as colourful as in oblivion but it is far more varied. In Oblivion, the game did not permanently mark landmarks unless you downloaded a mod for that. Skyrim has solved this problem and there are various landmarks that are just awesome to look at. Every cave or house, landmark is different and unique. Caves are now lively unlike the dull look and feel of Oblivions. They now feel like someone is actually living in them. Lacking co-op mode or any multiplayer, Bethesda has opted for companion system where you can find NPCs that will help fight with you. The easiest way to find a companion is by paying a fee and the hard way is completing city quest where the Jarl will give you a companion. The other way is by completing quest for these NPCs and sometimes brawling with them does the trick.
The new creation engine certainly does justice to the landscape which is rendered beautifully. Caves are not dull anymore with shimmering light coming through cracks in the wall, trees also grow in caves and many more eye popping scenery. Everything is meticulously crafted except for the various bugs you encounter here and there like backward flying dragons, dragons with corrupted physics when landing, broken quest, things floating in mid-air, etc. But I digress because any game that gives me 150+ hours of super quality gameplay at $50 is a winner in my book. Ice on mountain tops are rendered beautifully with the occasional ice storms blowing past you.
Let us not forget that Skyrim is still in DX9 and the sound, voice acting and dialogue are exceptional. I am going to get the Skyrim soundtrack so I can play it in my car because it has one of the best soundtracks in a game I have ever heard. People still walk stiff but not as stiff as in Oblivion. Your character has a funny way of recovering from a shout when knocked down; the animation is so downright funny and at the same time shocking to see how he or she stands up.
My review of various storylines in the game:
- Main Quest – 95%: Better than in Oblivion
- Thieves Guild Quest lines – 90%
- Mages Guild Quest lines – 90%
- Dark Brotherhood Quest lines – 92%
- Companion Quest lines – 85%
- Imperial Legion – 85%
- Bards College – 70% : Too short
- Daedric Quest – 88 %
- All City Quest – 90%
- All Settlement Quest – 85%
- Miscellaneous Quest – 94%
I choose the imperial legion in my first play through and I am sure the stormcloak’s are just as awesome.
Everything about this game screams PLAY ME NOW and after spending 165+ hours, I feel like I can go back and put in another 140+ from the beginning meaning I will be efficient.
Experience the Witcher’s gorgeously crafted world
The Witcher 2 reminds me of… Ehm… Apparently I cannot think if any game or movie this incredible interactive piece of software reminds me of because it is unique, gorgeous and satisfying. This game has some unique set pieces that are unmatched, more reason why it will be contender for RPG of the year. I have not played a game in 5 months since my PC went dead and this was the only game I could think about once my PC was up and running.
After an assassin failed at killing King Foltest from the ending of the first game, he entrusted his protection to the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, a well-known and feared mutated monster slayer with a knack for making bad decisions. This game is full of decisions that will lead you to several paths. There are 2 major paths or allies you can follow depending on the decision you made at the end of chapter 1 Geralt let his guard down for one second and the King is slain by another witcher who is basically an assassin of Kings because he killed other kings. The castle guards immediately rush in and they see Geralt leaning over Foltest’s body. This scene does not look good for anybody no matter how hard you try to convince the guards. The real game begins when you break out of jail, joining your sorcerer friends Triss Merigold and Vernon Roche to a city called Flotsam. There are twist and turns as you navigate Flotsam and its surroundings solving quest after quest.
Gameplay is just the same as the first game in 2007 in which you only have 2 swords: a steel and silver swords which are used for Humans and monsters respectively. The combat system is better and very fast. With any typical RPG, you get to level up and spend skill points. Spending skill points is simple and if you try to choose everything, you might not be able to complete a particular skill like combat but choosing skills from magic can also help in combat. Alchemy and potion drinking is essential if you are playing at a higher difficulty which is easy to make. The best potions are the ones that enhance your combat abilities or skills in my opinion. At some points, the game can be very difficult even on normal settings. You cannot take potions on the fly but only if you meditate for a split second. This sometimes is a problem because you might forget to take a potion before going into combat only to realise that you are outmatched by a foe. The Witcher 2 graphics and sound are fantastic. For a direct X 9 game, if they told me it was Dx 11, I would have believed them but FRAPS does not lie and this game looks gorgeous on an HD screen. Some graphics settings will have to be turned down in order to keep at least an average of 40fps if you are running a system that has a core i5 2300 Sandybridge and a 2 year old HD5850. Surprisingly the HD 5850 is good enough for even ultra settings but with UberSampling disabled. Character lip-syncing is spot on and mature in content. When combat kicks in, you can hear every single slice or tabbing.
There are some memorable characters in the game that stand out like Letho, Triss, Vernon and so on and so although there is a lack of deep character development going on here. I wish The Witcher was a true open world game because it can be linear at certain points but it is still worth playing. I could not think of a better game to sink my teeth after my hiatus for 5 months. This is a must play for any RPG fans out there.

My Traditional Marriage
To my readers, I recently got married which is why I have not been able to write a lot on my blog recently. I am Nigerian and the beautiful lady by my side is my wife. We were wearing our traditional apparel for the traditional marriage. The wedding is coming soon and will let you know after that. Here in Nigeria we have 2 seasons; rainy and dry season and July 16 was in the middle of the rainy season but it did not rain at all on that day and everything went smoothly. I met my wife in Budapest, Hungary 4 and half years ago and the rest is history. I am mostly a private person but I decided to let you guys know. There will be more post from me coming soon.
My beautiful wife
Kia is now stylish and the sportage will definitely turn heads. I keep looking at it..
The new Kia sportage 2011 has good looks thanks to Audi designer hired to recreate a new look for the company. All new cars from kia have this look. I like to call it sleek, bold and almost intimidating for a kia model. It looks better than a BMW X3 in my humble opinion. My model has all black leather materials with 7 speakers including a subwoofer, 6 CD MP3 changer and a decent drive train that is smooth and quiet. There is a USB plug for iPhone for USB sticks which is very neat. This model also has 6 speed automatic which smoothens the ride at top speeds reducing engine noice.
PROS
- Good stylish looks for a KIA
- Decent ride Handling
- Good Interior cabin
- Good space at the back for passengers
- Good luggage compartment
- Good Sound system with subwoofer
- Value for Money
- Decent tech readout under the speedometer
CONS
- Using your feet for handbrake is a little weird
- No navigation system
Verdict:
It’s a good looking KIA, deal with it and buy one.

Free Newsreader Apps for Windows Phone 7
News is important to feed our curiosity about the world we live in. This particular episode focuses on news app that may include technology news. Technology news apps will be covered later. Let’s begin.
CNN Newsreader:

7APPLABS has another CNN app that you can pay for but for a start, you can try the free one. This app has a simple design without pictures and once you click on a headline, it opens up CNN page inside the app. In short it is a little dull but you can still get your news.
BBC News Mobile:
This app by Lawrence Gripper has undergone some design changes in version 2.4. It looks slicker and cleaner with a background logo that blends in. Pages open in the app which includes an excerpt page and a full story page. I recommend this app for anybody looking for a free BBC News mobile app.
The Guardian:
The guardian is developed by 7APPLABS which actually has a better interface and design than the free CNN app. flip from left to right and you can see the categories that you can choose from. Every headline opens inside the app with pictures aligned to the left of the article.
The Huffington Post:
Huffington post is a good app but is buggy. The most obvious bug is when clicking on a headline and watching as the sentences or paragraphs repeated again. The best way to clear this bug is to double tap on the screen which will zoom in and double tap on the screen to zoom out which makes the repeating paragraph bug disappear. Overall this is a good app for your news.
Other news apps include: MSNBC, NY Times, etc. Both these apps are developed by 7APPLABS. There are other newsreader apps available in the marketplace. These apps mentioned above are my favourite. Enjoy

The Aspire 5742 laptop with Intel i3 370M and HD graphics is an overall good package with decent performance
This sleek laptop is based on Intel’s Core i3 mobile processor that is dual core and multithreaded running windows 7 64-bit which is strange because Acer only installed 3 GB but it can be upgraded. Other features include a 250 GB hard drive, Intel HD Graphics, DVD burner and standards like Wi-Fi and surprisingly no Bluetooth. The Core i3 370M processor runs at 2.4 Ghz which can handle multitasking with ease. Not the same ease like a desktop computer but reasonable for a laptop. 15 inch is not a lot of screen space at a widescreen resolution of 1366 by 768 but it is still manageable. Other features include a VGA and HDMI out that can handle 1080p resolution because of the HD graphics of the laptop.
Design
The design of this laptop is thin and beautiful with all black finish with the keyboard spread-out all the way to the edges on both the left and right because there is a num-pad on the right hand side just like a desktop keyboard. The keys are soft to touch and I fear that characters are going to fade but I could be wrong. There are only 3 stickers on which is the Intel logo, Windows 7 and Acer’s product sticker which makes it clutter free. Touch-Pad or as Acer calls it smart-pad is place just slightly to the left close to the Intel and windows 7 logo. The widescreen makes for small bezels on the left and right
Performance
There is a 1.3 megapixel camera which can take pictures and videos using Skype or Acer’s own software at different resolutions. The thing is that framerate goes from 30 fps to 8 fps once you crank up the resolution of the shot from 640 by 480 to 1280 by 800 respectively. Smartphones have better cameras that can shoot 720p videos
This laptop has a 6 cell, lithium-ion battery that can run for 4 hrs unplugged if you are just browsing the internet
Flash videos are a breeze with this laptop up to 720 on full screen. 3GB memory is enough for most applications but will quickly run out if you open lots of tabs in browsers or working with Photoshop.
Torchlight runs at an average of 28fps according to FRAPS benchmark utility. Crysis 2 at 800 by 600 ran at an average of 5 fps on lowest details. For detailed memory performance, I decided to use the popular AIDA64 and the results are below
Pros
- Fast Intel Core i3 mobile processor with hyper-threading
- Nice keyboard layout with numpad
- 3 GB of DDR3 memory
- HDMI out
- Good Intel HD graphics
- Quiet
Cons
- 1.3 Megapixel camera is sluggish at high resolutions
- Junkware
- One good speaker – unless mine came broken or Acer decided on a one speaker design.
- Weak battery
The Aspire 5742 laptop with Intel i3 370M and HD graphics is an overall good package with decent performance
